With the new SLIM LED, Waldmann presents an equally intelligent and elegant lighting solution, specifically for applications where previously there was no room for proper illumination.

Precision work is performed on machines and equipment. Yet precision is hardly possible without extensive and uniform illumination of the work area. The problem: Modern machine tools and sheet metal working equipment, saws, and printing, packaging and textile machines frequently offer insufficient installation space for machine luminaires.
 
The new SLIM LED is a solution that perfectly adapts to the given “circumstances”. The sleek product with the minimal dimensions is available in five different lengths (196 mm, 336 mm, 616 mm, 896 mm, and 1176 mm) and three different variants.

Optimum light at the machine workplace is ensured by the latest LED technology – LINEAR-light POWER Flex. The LEDs are attached to a flexible circuit board. The LED technology is superior to conventional fluorescent lamps and light bulbs in many respects. First, in terms of service life: LEDs are designed for 50,000 operating hours. This means 6 years of light around the clock – without replacing lamps and therefore also without maintenance costs. Second, in terms of energy efficiency: A 60-Watt incandescent lamp provides 11 lumens per watt, the LED OSRAM LINEAR-light provides 50 lumens per watt and therefore offers approximately 5 times more luminous intensity. This saves considerable amounts of energy and – looking at it through “green-colored” glasses – is also an active contribution to lowering CO2 emissions.

The flexible LED circuit board is embedded into a sturdy, anodized aluminum profile, which was specially developed by Waldmann for use in extreme conditions. Measuring 20 mm in width and 16.3 mm in height (rigid version), the sleek profile is not one millimeter larger than necessary. Optimum protection from moisture, dust, or metal chips in accordance with protection class IP 67 is ensured by a high-tech potting compound consisting of premium adhesive resin, which was developed by Waldmann specifically for the SLIM LED. The exact positioning of the potting compound by a robot arm is likewise carried out in-house at Waldmann.

LED light is produced electronically and not mechanically as in conventional lamps, such as halogen lamps. Since there is no filament, there is also no risk of breakage, due to vibrations, impact, or other mechanical stresses. As a result of these special design features, the SLIM LED is a machine lighting solution that withstands all conditions without damage.

Speaking of conditions: The SLIM LED is available in different variants for different working conditions and requirements. The base version is cast with the high-tech potting compound and is moisture and dust-proof in accordance with protection class IP 67. Variant 1 is additionally equipped with a clear acrylic screen to offer protection from coarse mechanical influences – such as metal chips. Variant 2 has a satin acrylic screen, which produces a broadly scattered, diffuse light and prevents glare from reflections. An additional equipment option allows the luminaire to be rotated inside the aluminum profile by 45º.  In this way, the light direction can be flexibly varied with one step as needed.
The assembly too is done in no time at all. The base version is attached to the machine wall by way of two metal tabs. On the rotatable variant, a carrier profile is first installed and the rotating module is then simply snapped into the profile.

It is directly connected to 24 volt direct current. The integrated circuit board optimally adjusts the connecting voltage to the LED, and voltage fluctuations of +/- 1 volt are automatically compensated for. An additional operating device, or a transformer, is not necessary – saving even more time and cost.

Conclusion:
The SLIM LED is a machine luminaire that fills a true (market) niche: It provides high-quality flood lighting in areas where previously there was no room for illumination. Its innovative LED technology is impressive, and it stands out with its flexibility and variant variety.
