Social Commitment
We are
feeding children. Here. On site. In the Schwarzwald-Baar district there are 2,400 poor children. Where we
are, all children get a lunch. With no hassle or strings attached. On Feb. 22, in conjunction with the Villingen-Schwenningen Children and Family Center
(KiFaz), Waldmann launched the local 'Daily Bread for Children' campaign. Additional information is available at www.taeglich-brot-fuer-kinder.de.

DAILY BREAD FOR CHILDREN – An
initiative from KiFaz and Waldmann
|
The 2005 government
report on poverty indicates that around 1.1 million children in Germany
live below the poverty level. In the Schwarzwald-Baar district, the domestic area
for Waldmann, this affects more than 2,400 children under the age of 15 (German
Equality Welfare Association, 2005). Usually the parents are Hartz
IV-recipients or receive welfare benefits.
Nowadays more and more children are in school all day. There they get a hot
lunch in the school cafeteria. In the Villingen-Schwenningen
municipal area the Children and Family
Center (KiFaz) has taken
on after-school care for all-day girl and –boy students at two schools. This
also involves being with them during meals. In our experience there are
currently more than 120 out of a total of 550 children and youths who are not
able to pay for their food. A hot meal for three Euros.
It is humiliating not to
be able to pay for food.
We want to change this
situation.
In conjunction with the
Villingen-Schwenningen Children and Family
Center (KiFaz) we have
launched the 'Daily Bread for Children' campaign. Where we work, we want to
make sure that children get a hot lunch.
Children need attention
and social confidence to develop strong personalities. Poverty, social
exclusion, and a future with no prospects cloud the soul lead to burdensome
social rejection with irreparable damage. We need our youth, we need young
people who are equipped for the challenges of the future. We need intact social
structures with no excluded, frustrated minorities that are prone to violence.
With this commitment, we
strive for an ongoing partnership that will bring new, bright light into
disadvantaged children’s hearts.
