With employees on six continents, more than 40 showrooms right around the globe and with production facilities in Australia, Asia, the Netherlands and the USA, Interface is the world’s leading manufacturer of modular floor coverings. ‘Mission Zero’, called into being by Interface, formulates the commitment to sustainable action. By 2020, the company seeks to prevent all negative impacts on the environment that emanate from its operations. This mission not only affects the way its products are manufactured, but also the design and layout of its office premises

The company observed the guiding principles of its ‘Mission Zero’ while it was setting up its new office premises in Shanghai. From equipment to the materials employed, the office environment is characterised by a minimalist and natural style. To create a wholesome working environment, natural elements such as green plants and daylight were incorporated in the rooms. With their stylish design and their superlative energy efficiency, Waldmann lighting solutions fit perfectly into the interior design concept of Interface.

The much visited reception area was equipped with two HYBRID suspended luminaires. The separate switching and dimming of direct and indirect light makes it possible to have perfectly matched room lighting at all times of day. In the lounge area and in the meeting rooms, luminaires from the ATARO family and VIVAA LED suspended luminaires are used. Combined with the innovative and ultra-sensitive Waldmann lighting management system, the lamps can detect even the tiniest of movements within a defined field. Accordingly, the lights switch on whenever someone enters the room, and switch off again automatically when they leave. In addition, the level of lighting output is regulated in accordance with the level of daylight. This enables the amount of power consumed by individual luminaires to be reduced by as much as 50% when compared to conventional lighting solutions.
