Villingen-Schwenningen, January 2016: The design of the ZERA Bed is as straight-forward and simple as its name.
The new LED bed wall luminaires by Derungs from Waldmann excel thanks to their modularity and technical finesse. The sleek design is stunning with its top light quality, different light scenarios and a USB network gate.


The new ZERA Bed LED bed wall luminaires by Derungs, a company of the Waldmann Group, is embarking on a new era of illumination for residents, patients and recovery rooms, as well as in intensive care areas. It combines aesthetics and effortlessness in a unique manner. The design conceals the top-quality technical equipment, innovative features and a light performance which is unrivaled.


Sleek design

The extremely sleek luminaire body, with a surface of 1050 x 228 millimeters, is only 20 millimeters high. This way the luminaire discreetly retreats into the background and refines the room architecture with its sandblasted, anodized aluminum casing.


Different light scenarios

Great emphasis is placed on modularity and functionality with regards the technical features. The ZERA BED bed wall luminaire has four separate and switchable light scenarios and need-based color temperatures: a homogeneous general lighting (3000K), a rectangular examination light (4000K), a glare-free reading light (2700K) and a soothing night light (2700K). A particular highlight is the clear and distinct examination and treatment light with a medium illumination intensity of 1000 lux in the hospital and clinic area or 300 lux at the foot of the bed.


Unique free-form optic

Thanks to the innovative free-form optic, light is provided where it is required, without placing glare on the neighboring bed or persons in opposite beds. A great color rendering index of Ra>90 makes examinations and treatments easier.


Efficiency and sustainability

The above-average high luminaire efficacy of up to 103 lm/W (general lighting) is achieved using a special mirror reflector and the unique free-form optics. As a result the operating costs of the illumination system are clearly reduced. Also with regard to servicing and life cycle, the ZERA stands out: top-quality LED modules guarantee a long life cycle and can be exchanged when necessary. Other components of the luminaire are manufactured using recyclable materials (aluminum housing, side parts, plastic panels).


Tested safety

The ZERA BED meets the highest requirements with regard to safety and light quality. It is designed and tested according to IEC 60598-2-25 for rooms used for medical purposes and hospitals. It similarly meets the normative requirements for illumination in accordance with EN 12464-1 and DIN 5035-3. Additionally, the closed casing of the ZERA prevents the creation of dust pockets and bacteria and therefore improves hygiene.


Networked illumination

The modularity continues with the innovative equipment options of the ZERA BED. The USB Network Gate enables different forms of networking. In addition to USB clinical thermometers or blood pressure monitors, which directly transmit patient information, there are also numerous possible applications.

The illumination intensity can be individually dimmed using the DALI interface.
The bio-dynamic light management system and Visual Timing Light (VTL) can also be installed as an optional extra. The proven light management system, VTL, can naturally improve the quality of sleep and recovery of patients and residents.


Simple assembly and commissioning

The assembly of the ZERA Bed can be effortlessly carried out by only one specialist. Installation with an existing DALI lighting control is also possible. Therefore the luminaire cannot just be used in new buildings but also in renovations. The proven mounting system with wall bars means that the luminaire can be fitted to the wall quickly. The ZERA Bed can be operated either on site using available switches or the nurse call function on the patient terminal at the bed.
