The University of Freiburg was founded back in 1457 by Archduke Albrecht VI of Austria. Universitätsklinikum Freiburg currently employs about 11,100 people, making it one of the largest university clinics in Germany. About 1400 doctors and more than 2900 nursing staff take care of about 69,000 people a year as in-patients, and about 670,000 out-patients every year.

In the newly built administration building, all management departments are grouped together at a single location, with 450 workplaces. The building features a generously proportioned reception area with a conference and training centre attached at ground floor level. An important aspect of this project is the concept of the paperless office, something that is reflected in the entire furnishing concept.

Universitätsklinik Freiburg chose the Waldmann LAVIGO standard luminaire. Several reasons prompted the choice of the LAVIGO. It convinced with its minimalist design language and its maximum functionality. The LAVIGO delivers perfect and efficient light to the workplace, and imbues the space with a pleasant atmosphere. The multifunctional control element is easy to reach and operate. Another point guiding the choice of this standard luminaire was its optimised ratio of direct and indirect light, resulting in standard-compliant and uniform illumination of the large surface areas for which lighting requirements were calculated.
